For Surry Hills, the strip club to know is Sydney Elements, a luxury adult nightclub one ridge over at 42 Darlinghurst Road, Kings Cross, with private booths, bottle service and a rotating cast of showgirls, open Tuesday to Sunday from 8pm.

Surry Hills owns the start of a great Sydney night: dinner on Crown Street, a small bar you had to know about, a wine list somebody at the table insists on. What the suburb does not hold is the late chapter. That lives one ridge over, and the cab ride is short enough that the conversation does not even change subject.

A Different Kind Of Small Bar

Surry Hills trained you to appreciate a well-run room, and this one holds up: two levels, a bar on each, velvet booths ringing the floor and bottle service poured at the table. The cast rotates through the night with feature shows through the evening, so the room never sits still for long.

Reserve ahead and the night runs like a good restaurant service: a booth in your name, a host who keeps the table topped up, priority entry for the stragglers who stayed for one more on Crown Street. It is the polish you are used to, applied to a very different kind of night.

The Neighbourhood

Crown Street To The Cross

Surry Hills and the Cross have always been neighbours with different jobs. The Hills does dinner, design studios and small bars; the Cross does the hours after them. Between the two sits the Darlinghurst ridge, a five minute ride that has separated the first half of a Sydney night from its second for generations.

Number 42 is where that ride ends: velvet, brass and low gold light on Darlinghurst Road. Plenty of tables book dinner in the Hills and the booth over the ridge in the same afternoon, and the concierge is happy to time the booth to the booking.

Occasions travel well over the ridge. A bucks party gets a reserved booth and a host of its own, a birthday or work send-off is placed through VIP & Booths, and there is always something on to hang the night off.

How do we get there from Crown Street?

A cab over the Darlinghurst ridge takes about five minutes. On foot it is a twenty minute walk through Darlinghurst, and from Central station it is three stops on the T4 line to Kings Cross.

Can we come after dinner in Surry Hills?

That is the classic run. Doors open at 8pm and the room goes till 5am, so a booking that ends at nine or ten lands perfectly. Reserve ahead and the booth is waiting when the table breaks up.

What is the dress code?

Smart and stylish. Collared shirts and clean footwear for the gentlemen; no activewear, hi-vis or work boots. If you passed muster at a Crown Street restaurant, you are dressed for us.

Do you take group bookings?

Yes. Bucks parties, birthdays and work nights get a reserved booth, bottle service and a dedicated host. Tell the concierge your numbers and the night is placed before you arrive.

What nights are you open?

Tuesday to Sunday, doors from 8pm to 5am. Fridays and Saturdays are the busiest, and booths for those nights go first.

Is there an age requirement?

Yes. Sydney Elements is strictly 18 plus, and valid photo ID is checked at the door.

Do we need to book, or can we walk in?

Walk-ins are welcome when the floor allows. For a booth or any group, reserving ahead guarantees the table is held and a host is assigned.
